The Night Of Power Lailat - al - Qadr Allah (Almighty and Glorious is He) says in the Holy Qur'aan, in the 97th Sura, al-Alaq:Verses 1-5
We have indeed revealed this (Message) in the Night of Power: And what will explain to thee what the Night of Power is? The Night of Power is better than a thousand months. Therein come down the angels and the Spirit by Allah's permission, on every errand: Peace!... This until the rise of Morn!
214. Chapter: On the excellence of praying in the Night of Power Imam Nawawi ‘Riyad al-Salihin’
(Ust. Bewley translation)
Allah says, "Truly We sent it down on the Night of Power" (97:1) to the end of the sura. Allah says, "We sent it down on a blessed night." (W44:2; H44:3)
1189. Abu Hurayra reported that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "Anyone who prays on the Night of Power motivated by belief and in anticipation of being rewarded will be forgiven his past wrong actions." [Agreed upon]
1190. Ibn 'Umar reported that some of the Companions of the Prophet were shown in a dream that the Night of Power is during the last seven days. The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "I think that your dreams agree about the last seven. Those who want to look for it, should look for it in the last seven." [ syll. lay-la, la-yla ] The girl name Layla is pronounced as LEY-Lah †. Layla is primarily used in Arabic and English. Its language of origin is Arabic. Derived literally from the word 'layla' with the meaning intoxication, wine. The name was popularized in the Arabic world by the classical 7th century Middle Eastern love story, Layla and Majnun. Among English speakers, the name later enjoyed a boost in popularity from the Eric Clapton classic love song Layla (1970), inspired by his then-unrequited love for George Harrison's wife Pattie Boyd, who later married Clapton; the title of the song was itself inspired from the Middle Eastern love story.
Layla and Majnun have been characters for Sufi poets, as Krishna was for the poets of India. Majnun means absorption into a thought and Layla means the night of obscurity. The story is from beginning to end a teaching on the path of devotion, the experience of the soul in search of God. -- Pir-o-Murshid Inayat Khan
